Business Networking’s Largest Fib
By Keith Woolgar
There is certainly no doubt that face-to-face networking is probably the best, or even the most valuable methods to promote oneself, your cause or ones small enterprise. It is a fact.
Typically, business networking costs less as compared with conventional advertising and marketing, and ties you professionally to your organization, right in front of your clients or prospective purchasers. Take your itinerary to a function, book a follow up meeting immediately! Hours of cold calling and target marketing; stand aside! Who wouldn’t rather meet their consumers and prospective customers in an informal, familiar, non-confrontational setting like a networking event or by way of a networking group?
Go figure! So why else might there be a great number of networking breakfast group meetings, business networking happy hours, speed business networking events (you name it) and even more popping up on a regular basis?
Gone are the days of being restricted to joining chambers of commerce and other service organizations, due to the fact now you can connect with, greet and glad hand many other business networkers around the clock, seven days a week if you want to. Imagine, BNI and LeTip are networking brand names comprised of thousands of networkers alone…it’s a business networking society, folks! Now, with the more recent “online venues” like Facebook, business networking has gone viral as housewives, Realtors, cake bakers and Fortune 500 companies interact via the popular “social media”, which was not even a common phrase only three quick years ago. We as a society network, network, network!
The fib is that “networking” is effective. The truth of the matter is , that going to business networking events, signing up for groups, being on Facebook, etc. will not work whatever as a stand alone activity to closing sales or doing business. Without a doubt, it takes more…
Have you ever returned from your business networking event with a pocketful of business cards with no resulting leads? Like, zero? Sure, you have. Did you ever stop a business networking group due to the fact “it didn’t work”? Yes you did.
Facts are, the churn rate (existing users dropping out becoming replaced by fresh paid members) could be around 50% per year in a given networking organization. Half dropping out, being replaced by new, enthusiastic newbies, who will in turn drop out aftera lame attempt at making networking work for them.
